Swing Analysis

Golf Swing Analysis

Golf Swing analysis used to be only for the rich and famous (or at least the well-off and/or desperate-to-improve). Times have changed. The technology has changed and is cheaper and more effective. You can not only see your swing but sometimes step into a virtual-reality world. Video-taping your golf swing was the primary way of analysis years ago. Despite it’s relative “low-tech” categorization, it’s still a good beginning. But now, you can plug your video camera directly into your computer and with some good software get back a whole series of data and analysis.

Top-tier analysis software costs in the tens of thousands - I’ve seen systems as high as $26,000. Lower-end software used to be around $1000, but now can be had for $40 - $100. The software can be downloaded directly through your DSL (don’t try it with dial-up as most of the programs are too large).

Several software programs that I have used, enable you to put your swing video directly into your computer and will then overlay a “correct” swing image or video on top of yours, giving you a means of comparison. Many will allow you to keep a history of your swings, so you can see how your swing has evolved and changed over time. I have to admit it is pretty amazing to watch your swing change over time. Pretty damn motivating too. You might even consider taking your video and having a pro analyze it.

If you are looking for swing analysis software that is totally free, I haven’t seen much out there. But there are several programs that offer free trials.
