Golf Swing Instruction
How do you improve your Golf swing?
If you have spent any time taking golf lessons or instructions (and what golf lover hasn't) you have heard dozens if not hundreds of tips for improving your golf game. You may think that you have heard it all before. Here are some common bits of "wisdom" that seemed to get repeated quite often:
- Improve Your Balance
- Work with your rhythm and tempo
- Follow Through
- Use your whole body, not just your arms (or legs, or shoulders etc.)
- Improve your "biomechanics"
- Generate more swing speed.
- Create a faster back swing to generate more power.
- You need "good grip" "good posture" and "good motion"
- Quite your mind and visualize the perfect swing (through hypnosis, meditation etc.)
- Swing from your hips
Are you seeing a pattern here? Much of the advice that you get is too general. What exactly is meant by "good grip" and "good posture"? Ask ten different people and you will get 10 different answers! Watch ten different videos, and you will see ten different swings!
The best way to improve your swing is to ask the right question. Here's the question:
"At my current experience and comfort level what's the best thing I can do to to improve my swing?"
The beauty of that question is that the answer will change as your swing (and game) improves and YOU become the expert on your process of improving your swing. The best way to screw-up someone's game is to teach them swing techniques (or postures, grips, movements etc.) that they are not ready for. It creates stress and strain and kills motivation.
So, take a step back, take a deep breath and focus on your learning. Many of the free golf instrcution mp3's that you can download on this site, will focus on the process of learning itself. They will focus on breaking golf swing movements, such as the use of your arms, hips, balance and follow-through, into bit-size pieces that will allow to feel and learn the logice of an excellent swing from the inside out. As you may have read on the other parts of the website, I am a fan of golf instruction, whether "live" with a pro, or in an online video or home DVD. But, I am also a fan of "learning from the inside out."
When you begin to sequence, re-sequence, and improve your performance, based on your own comfort and learning process. You will find that your swing improves automatically. Your game will improve automatically. And you will get more out of instruction and lessons when you get them. You will learn how to engage your entire body in your swing, how to coordinate your golf swing. And all that advice that you have heard, such as "swing from your hips" and "follow through" will happen automatically.
